Router in \'Port mapping\' tight loop, with UPNP deleting and adding a port mapping on port 56878
Since a few days ago, I've noticed my internet service grind to a halt intermittently. Checking the router logs, I find many pages like those below. (192.168.1.100 is my Windows 7 PC. 88.97.aa.bb is the [munged for my security] internet address of my router). Has the W7 network discovery protocol gone into overdrive? My router is a Linksys Wag200G. I've got an AV product plus Defender, so malware seems unlikely? I don't play with ____, torrentz or P2P.I'd hate to see this on abig corporate network as it's effectively aDenial of Service attack!Comments welcome.<begins>Thu, 2009-06-25 10:03:31 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: deleting port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bb ExtPort 56878 Proto UDP Thu, 2009-06-25 10:03:31 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: adding port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bb ExtPort 56878 Proto UDP Thu, 2009-06-25 10:04:02 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: deleting port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bb ExtPort 56878 Proto UDP Thu, 2009-06-25 10:04:02 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: adding port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bb ExtPort 56878 Proto UDP Thu, 2009-06-25 10:04:41 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: deleting port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bb ExtPort 56878 Proto UDP Thu, 2009-06-25 10:04:41 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: adding port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bb ExtPort 56878 Proto UDP Thu, 2009-06-25 10:05:20 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: deleting port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bb ExtPort 56878 Proto UDP Thu, 2009-06-25 10:05:20 - Upnp Log: UPNP ACTION: adding port mapping IntIP 192.168.1.100 IntPort 56878 ExtIP 88.97.aa.bbExtPort 56878 Proto UDP <ends>

If you disable UPNP and still have an issue then there would be a bigger cause for concern. I wonder, were there any updates installed when this started happening?

Where do you suggest I disable UPNP? Are there any side effects of that?In the course of thinking about this, I recalled that I was experimenting with 'network discovery' earlier and it may well be that this is themore relevant point as my router does not support it. So I've turnedthat off first and will see what happens. I'll report back if there is any lasting effect either way.

Further to my last, turning off NetworkDiscovery makes no difference: the problem remains. So I need to know where to disable UPNP, please. The only KB article I can find is how to enable it in XP.
